Lyric Theatre

This theatre was located in a two story brick commercial building which was constructed sometime between 1897 and 1901. The 1905 map shows a clothing store here, but the theatre had opened by 1912.

Still open in 1914/1915, it was closed by 1916. This building and many of its neighbors were demolished long ago. The site is currently occupied by a depressing office building which might be from the 1970’s.

The October 7, 1916 issue of Moving Picture World has an article about the Gem Theatre (which might have been the Grand with a new name, not the Gem on Park Street) which is headed “Olathe’s One Picture Show,” so the Lyric was closed by 1916.
