The 23 Drive-In was opened by early-1958. It was owned by J. M. Maraffey and held 299 cars. The MPA kept that listing through 1976. For the 1977 edition, the MPA refreshed its drive-in list, and Wurtland’s drive-in was gone.
On March 23, 1970, Boxoffice wrote that Ray Glover had changed the name of his Wurtland drive-in from the 23 Drive-In to the Cougar Drive-In.
A 1958 aerial photo showed a drive-in just east of Wurtland on then-US 23, (now Wurtland Avenue) at a site that had been vacant land the year before. The drive-in was intact in 1971 but replaced by housing in 1983.
The closest address I could find to the 23’s screen tower is 143 Kennedy Avenue. Note that the town gets its mail service from Greenup, a town west of Wurtland. The drive-in site is adjacent to the Wurtland city limits on the east side.

The Cougar Drive-In either opened in 1957 or 1958. The 1957 aerial view shows nothing being constructed yet, but a 1958 aerial view shows the theater already in operation.
