Public Hall Picture House

Located in Wilmslow, Cheshire, next to the Swan Inn. The fortunes of the Swan Inn (a coaching inn) appear to have declined following the arrival of the railway (in 1842) and the opening of the Railway Hotel (between 1841 and 1871). The Public Hall was opened on 28th June 1882. Public Hall Picture House was opened on 27th April 1912, in what could be an extension, as it was constructed on part of the yard and stables of the Swan Inn. The facade and front of the building were made of stone, but it was said the auditorium to be largely of timber frame construction, with a tin roof, which made quite a racket when it rained. It was demolished by 1927.

It was replaced by a new Wilmslow Picture Palace 150 meters away on Station Road (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures under its later name Regal Cinema).
