The Star Theater was the first movie house in Forsyth. Previously, moving pictures were shown infrequently by traveling shows at the Forsyth Opera House. The Star Theater launched on July 22, 1909 with film and illustrated songs. But a Scarlet Fever outbreak temporarily closed the venue just two weeks later.
P.E. Irving purchased the Star Theater and renamed it as the Lincoln Paramount Theatre in January of 1917. That name was truncated to the Lincoln Theatre. Early in 1930, new owners A.C. Wolke and F.X. Faust determined that the Lincoln Theatre would not be moving to the sound era and erected a new theatre after clearing away an old building just up the street. In production, the sound theatre was to be called the New Lincoln Theatre. However, very late in the process, it was changed to the Roxy Theatre which launched September 6, 1930 (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
The last show at the Lincoln Theatre was on August 21, 1930 with William Collier Jr. in “The Bachelor Girl”. The building was retrofitted as the original home of a Gambles Store turned Marshall-Wells Store turned Coast to Coast store. More recently, it housed a bar/casino.
