Morehead Theatre

The Morehead Theatre was opened in 1951 by Everett Enterprises Circuit in an existing building and likely on a 30-year leasing agreement. The circuit rebuilt the Morehead for widescreen, CinemaScope presentations. It reopened on May 25, 1955 with “Meet Me In Las Vegas” in CinemaScope. At the same time, Everett reopened the fire-damaged Drake Theatre in Wilson and opened the new Bragg Theatre in Fayetteville and the new Center in Jacksonville.

Everett Circuit took an opt out on the Morehead Theatre at the 15-year mark closing up in 1966. An entirely new Morehead Theatre was built just blocks away offering a more comfortable viewing experience. The former Morehead Theatre building was later demolished.
