Sanborn Maps, 1898

The Colonial Theatre was in the Masonic Temple at what was 83 State Street. By 1915 the building was a hotel and the space used by the theater, renumbered 85 State Street, was a store.

The old Masonic Temple would be at about 125 State Street today, inside the right wall of the Strack & Van Til supermarket.

The Colonial Theatre was open as early as April 1908, run by local showman Harvey Brooks. In May 1910 Brooks sold the theatre to Dr. J.T. Clark, who operated it until December 1911. At that point J.H. Haggarty, owner of the Berry Theatre in East Chicago, IN, became the Colonial Theatre’s new lessee. “Under new management,” proclaimed an advertisement on December 30, 1911.

There is no mention of the Colonial Theatre after February 1912.
