In 1911 Alfred Griessen, operator of the Alpha Theatre in the Strahlman Building in Sellwood (now part of Portland), Oregon, opened the Star Theatre in his own building on the opposite corner of 13th Street and Spokane Street. He operated the Star Theatre until 1920. The Griessen Building still stands on the southwest corner of the intersection.
