On October 18, 1919, the Healdsburg Enterprise headlined the destruction on October 16 of Truitt’s Theatre, also known as the Victory Theatre, in a $30,000 fire. The report noted the building was erected by Ransome Powell in 1870 and was used by the Liberty Theatre people until their new theater on West Street was completed. There is no indication that the theater reopened, except later for the Big Tent Theatre, which was advertised as “Old Location of Truitt’s Theater.”
Also remembered as the Healdsburg Opera House, the Tribune reported Truitt’s Opera House was built in 1871 as a skating rink. The Healdsburg Museum reports prior to May 1915 it was called Hansen’s Theatre.
The Tribune’s 44 years-ago files on February 25, 1960, reported this: “The Healdsburg Opera House will be formally opened Saturday afternoon of this week as a First-class photo-play house.
