The Garrett family decided to convert a retail building into the Garrett Theatre. The Garrett launched July 11, 1940 with Jean Parker in “Son of the Navy” supported by a newsreel. Just four months later, the Garretts sold out to F.L Snyder. Then Dean W. Davis, who operated the competing Davis Theatre, bought out his competition as he had done when Dickinson Amusement came to town in 1931/2.

Under its third operator in six months, the venue opened as the Avenue Theatre January 24, 1942 with Barbara Stanwyck in “Banjo on My Knee”. In 1950, Dean Davis decided to build a drive-in and a new theater. The hardtop was the new Avenue Theatre that launched September 26, 1950 and has its own Cinema Treasures page. This Avenue Theatre location closed permanently on September 11, 1950 with Monte Hale in “Outcasts of the Trail”.
