Marr Theatre

The Family Theatre opened April 15, 1911 on Court Street in Saginaw. In 1930, the venue transitioned to sound films to remain viable. It closed on July 7, 1934 with Frank Craven and Sally Blane in “City Limits”.

The Family Theatre was sold to George E. Marr who renamed it the next day as the Marr Theatre launching with Constance Bennet in “Moulin Rouge” on July 8, 1934. Marr was a great showman and successfully ran the venue into 1937 when he wanted a newer and larger showplace. He discontinued the original Marr Theatre on November 9, 1937 with Will Rogers in “David Harum”.

Marr then moved to Gratioit Avenue with the New Marr Theatre that opened February 4, 1938. (It has its own Cinema Treasures entry). The original location was retrofitted for the Court Cash Market grocery store. The building lasted more than 100 years before being demolished for a parking lot.
