Eagle Theatre

The Eagle Theatre initially was constructed sometime between 1906 and 1912. The original building was a large wooden structure built around the south side of an existing house. Due to the slope of the hill, it was two stories at the rear. This configuration existed through at least 1920.

The 1928 map shows the house demolished, and the theatre now built in brick, and quite a bit deeper. The ‘notch’ where the house was located has been retained.

Sometime later, the front of the building was expanded, and became a two-story building with a storefront to the north of the entry. This appears to have taken place around 1930. By 1944, it was being operated by Mid-State Theatres. The Eagle Theatre was still open in 1957, but its not known when it closed, but it was not helped by an odd location on a narrow street well outside of downtown.

The 2008 streetview shows it looking a bit seedy, but still with the original lobby doors. Streetview is broken, but the building looks better kept in the 2023 view, although it’s impossible to see the front. It seems to be used as apartments.
