The Sapporo Cinema Frontier is a 12-screen movie theater located on both the 7th and 8th floors of the Sapporo Stellar Place. It opened softly on February 22, 2003 but had its grand opening on March 6, 2003 as a replacement of the popular Shochiku Yurakukan nearby (which closed a few weeks later), featuring a total capacity of 2,705 seats with Sony Digital Cinema DLP and Dolby Surround 7.1. Screens 3 (259 seats) and 8 (455 seats) previously used the DLP system until December 22, 2011.
It was operated by Sapporo Cinema Frontier Co., Ltd., a joint venture between TOHO Cinemas (50% investment), Shochiku Multiplex Theatres/Shochiku (30% investment), and T-Joy (20% investment), but the venture was dissolved and operation was entrusted to TOHO Cinemas from March 1, 2012. However, the three companies continue to operate the theater jointly.
