Located in the tiny village of Beamish, to the east of Stanley, County Durham. The Beamish Museum is an outdoor museum creating living memories over the years, with traditional shops, a pub, trams running in the cobbled streets and since July 2024, the Grand Cinema which is located in the 1950’s Town recreation.
The Grand Theatre building was originally located in Ryhope, County Durham and was dismantled beginning in April 2020 and brought to the Beamish Museum and reassembled to reopen in July 2024. When in Ryhope it was opened as the 850-seat Grand Picture Palace prior to 1914 (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures). Now in its Beamish Museum location and named Grand Cinema, it offers 3 film shows a day, each with a duration of 30 minutes. There are plans for future feature presentations to be held on occasional evenings. It has digital projection, but there are vintage 35mm projectors on display.
