The Plaza Cinema I & II opened its doors on May 26, 1972 with “The Godfather” on both screens. It was originally set to be named North Park Cinemas but the name was dropped for unknown reasons until later in its history.

The Cinecom Corporation was the first operator of the theater. It was later taken over by V.I.P Theatres a few years later and finally Kerasotes afterward.

Kerasotes operated the North Park Cinema for almost its entire life until its closure on November 15, 1999 (alongside the Movies At Raintree Plaza) due to the popularity of the then-new Showplace 12 nearby.
