This started life as the Public Hall, which opened on July 3, 1948 as a special events house at 29 Higashi Ichibancho. It became a movie house on January 29, 1949 as a Daiei premiere theater under the name International Theater, and later became the Sendai Shintoho Theater as a Shintoho premiere theater on February 3, 1954 but didn’t last long. After a rebuild, the theater reopened as Toei theaters with two auditoriums under the names Sendai Toei and Sendai Toei Pallas in September 1956. As of 1960, Sendai had 27 movie theaters in total, including the two Sendai Toei theaters.

After closing in the early-1990’s, the theater was relocated from 29 Ichibancho to 10 Ichibancho, and reopened in its current location on June 11, 1994 as the Sendai Toei & Melose, with two auditoriums on the sixth floor of the Sendai Toei Plaza. The Toei screen has 298 seats as a Toei roadshow house while the Melrose screen houses 145 seats as an affiliation with Marunouchi Louvre.

Unfortunately after the 12-screen MOVIX Sendai opened in December 2000, a boom in cinema complexes led to a gradual decline in performance and led to both the theater and the mall’s closure on April 15, 2005.
