The Grand Crystal Theatorium opened September 5, 1908 in the Stanley Building with motion pictures, illustrated songs with an admission price of five cents for all times. By 1909, vaudeville had been added to the film programming. The nearby Rex Confectionery served as the Grand Crystal’s de facto concession stand. J.C. Rogers took on the venue late in 1909 changing its name to the People’s Theatre at its January 24, 1910 grand reopening. Its motto was “Always a good show… sometimes a great one.” The People’s moniker remained until new operators took it over with another new name in December of 1911.
