J.F. Carnahan & M.C. Hughes opened the Lee Theatre on March 31, 1942 with Bud Abbott & Lou Costello in “Buck Privates”. With the Lee Theatre opening they would close the Lyric Theatre.

Charles Bowles took on the venue and added the Ritz Theatre on May 1, 1947. On April 14, 1948, Bill Monroe played live on the Lee Theatre stage as part of WSM radio’s Grand Ole Opry program. The Lee Theatre was closed on June 23, 1957 with John Wayne in “The Wings of Eagles”. It went over to special events and occasional film shows.

Closed as a full-time movie theater on June 23, 1957 with John Wayne in “The Wings Of Eagles” (unknown if extras added). The Lee Theatre did reopen as a special events theater a short time later and does screen a very few amount of movies at rare occasions.
