Silky Otter Cinemas Palmerston North

In Palmerston North, the seat of the Manawatū-Whanganui region in the North Island, the Silky Otter Cinema opened on 1st July 2023.

It is in a conversion of a building previously occupied by a Smiths City department store.

Silky Otters chief executive Neil Lambert said he was especially pleased to be opening one of their cinemas in Palmerston North as he had been a university student in the city. (The circuit’s first cinema opened in Orakei, Auckland, in 2019 - see separate Cinema Treasures entry.)

The six screens each have 45 seats, with the same configuration. (Opening press reports mentioned eight screens. It is unclear whether that was accurate, and two have been moth-balled.)
