The Galveston Tribune has references to a theatre at this location going back to March 10, 1910, when it was reported, “Rudolph Nissel of Galveston, conducting a vaudeville and motion picture show known as the Theatorium at 2120 Market Street”.
An advertisement for the Dixie Theatre labeled 2120 Market Street first appeared in the Tribune on January 3, 1911, with the movies “Get Rich Quick” and “Hunting Sea Lions in Tasmania”.
The Tribune reported the opening of Galveston’s newest vaudeville and motion picture theatre on December 10, 1911. The advertisement read, “We are remodeling and enlarging to further please our patrons”. On the bill was “The Vagabond”, directed by Edwin S. Porter and the Pathe weekly newsreel.
Known as Dixie Theatre No. 1, this was Attilleo Martini’s first theatre and in 1915 he opened the Dixie No. 2 in the same building and in 1920 the Dixie No 3 on Market Street.
