The Fairyland Theatre opened April 25, 1908, on Railroad Avenue (now Lincoln Way) and High Street. ‘Drop in and laugh. The latest motion pictures from Europe, moving, pathetic, comic and grotesque. Come, laugh and be happy’.

The Auburn Journal reported: ‘J. H. Lindsey opened a moving picture show in the Hink Block and it is likely that a nickelodeon will hereafter be a permanent institution in Auburn. These cheap places of amusement have become exceedingly popular in all of the larger cities and are always well patronized. Mr. Lindsey has a fine lot of films and the large audiences since the opening indicate successful business. The Placer Herald reported ‘Auburn has become Real Citified and can now boast of a nightly show’.

The aforementioned Hink Block, actually one building, was designed by Charles Frederick Mau.

The Fairyland Theatre’s last advertisement appeared in the Herald in November 1914 and in January 1915 it was replaced by a store.
