The Lynn Drive-In, located just west of New Castle, opened by November 1952, when it advertised in the Roanoke Times.

A June 1956 note in Boxoffice said that the Lynn Drive-In and the indoor Masonic Theatre were run by Jerry Lynn Abbott, who had just graduated from high school and was said to be the country’s youngest movie theater owner.

A full-page story in the Times on June 25, 1980 included a photo of Abbott, who still owned the Lynn Drive-In which was still open in 1982. The article mentioned that the drive-in had 125 car spaces.

A closer address is 585 Paint Bank Rd, New Castle, VA.

This puts it right on the property where the projection booth was located.

The drive-in was still intact and perhaps operational in 1982. By 1996 it had been demolished.

It also appears that the projection booth/concession stand was converted into a house. Otherwise, there is no trace of the drive-in remaining.

A humorous column in the Nov. 24, 1983 Roanoke Times, about the quirky rules restricting Russian visitors from visiting Craig County, mentioned that the Lynn was “open weekends only.”
