The Carolina Theatre was a post-War African-American movie house likely built, in part, with G.I. Bill stimulus funds following World War II. Joe and Marvin Kelly launched here with Louis Jordan in “Beware” on July 2, 1948. The Carolina Theatre had a few integrated live events in the mid-1950’s.
The theatre shows up with back tax issues in 1956 and 1957. Unable to reach its 10 year anniversary, the Carolina Theatre was auctioned off on June 10, 1958 but not reopened as the new owner remodeled the venue for other purposes. By 2025 it was operating as a private club.
