Rivoli Theatre

This theatre was open by 1912. It was located in a pre-1885 two story brick commercial building, which was a grocery and feed store in 1902.

Sometime between 1912 and 1923, the building was expanded, and a small annex at the rear was added to hold a stage and scenery. The initial capacity was given as 360, but by the 1930’s, this was increased. The theatre was open until 1946. It is listed as closed in 1947, and was returned to retail use.

The building, which was originally Italianate (although there may have been some remodels while it was a theatre), has been covered in repulsive wood siding which the KS Historic Resources Inventory rather sarcastically calls ‘Buckaroo Revival’. It is an insurance office.
