Cinema Ariel

A modern multi-screen cinema in the city centre. Lacking in any style, the exterior was a bland concrete box. The auditoriums were very plain. The Cinema Ariel was opened in 1974. The largest screen was Screen 6 which was located on the ground floor and had 800-seats. The other 5 screens were upstairs and very small. It was closed on 14th July 2010, unable to compete with two new multiplexes, one of which was located in the city centre. The building stood vacant and fully equipped until it was demolished in February 2023.

A five story building containing 50 apartments and underground parking was built on the site.
