The 404-seat Niigata Bandai Toho Plaza located on the first basement floor of the Bandai Cinemall Building opened its doors as a foreign roadshow single-screener on December 22, 1984 with Bill Murray in “Ghostbusters”, and was one of the more popular movie houses in all of Niigata throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s.
Some other notable films that screened in the Bandai Toho include “Back To The Future”, “Top Gun”, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”, “Total Recall”, “Terminator 2”, “Speed”, and “Armageddon”. But unfortunately the opening of the T-Joy Niigata Bandai caused the Bandai Toho Plaza to close briefly on June 24, 2001.
Niigata Kotsu, the company who owned the building, entrusted its operation to T-Joy, and the theater itself reopened six days later on June 30, 2001 as the T-Joy Niigata Bandai ANNEX, but closed just three years later on April 11, 2004, bringing an end to its nearly 20-year history.
