Opened in 1919 as the Elliot Theatre. It closed as a silent movie theatre in 1931. Shortly after, original manager Logan Hedrick signed a contract with RKO Radio Pictures, Hedrick went back to his home in Sidell, Illinois, and opened his own movie theater there, known as the American Theatre. The American Theatre opened its doors on January 14, 1937 with Joan Marsh in “Rainbow Over Broadway” and Rex Lease in “Custer’s Last Stand” along with an unnamed cartoon.
It was renamed the Sidell Theatre on March 1, 1942 after extensive remodeling, reopening with Tyrone Power in “A Yank in the R.A.F.” along with an unnamed Our Gang comedy and a Fox Movietone Newsreel.
The Sidell Theatre closed in 1956. The Lions Club took over the theatre for a short time and it was then converted into a Masonic Hall.
