From the Hanford Sentinel, November 7, 1907: “The building of the new opera house at Coalinga is rapidly progressing, and soon the west side city will have a fine playhouse built upon modern plans with stage advantages that are in keeping with the times. What Coalinga does from this one is going to be done right”
From the Hanford Journal, January 25, 1909: “Albert Loges was in Hanford yesterday on business connected with a moving picture show which will be put on at the Coalinga opera house by H. C. Williams, its manager. Albert will assist in the management and he says that the show will be up to date and be presented nightly with frequent changes of program, except when there are road shows at the Coalinga Opera House. This good and cheap entertainment will no doubt be highly appreciated by the Coalinga people”.
From the San Luis Obispo Morning Times, July 29,1910: Coalinga, “Starting from the explosion of a gasoline tank in Cushman’s paint shop, a fire swept over the main business section of the town this afternoon, burning ever half a block in D street, between Fourth and Fifth, causing damage to the extent of $35,000 or more. Among the buildings that were destroyed were the Coalinga Opera House, the public library, fire house building and entire plant of the Coalinga Daily Times, the Hanford foundry, several residences and other small business establishments”.
The Coalinga Opera House was listed on Sanborn Maps 1910 at 4th and E Streets.
