Airdome

This large airdome was built in July 1910. It appears on the 1913 Sanborn. It was located behind some tiny wooden shacks holding various businesses. This lot was vacant on the 1908 map, although some of the businesses were there. The stage and screen were fairly large, and brick was used in the construction.

By 1923 at the latest, this had been replaced by the second Tackett Theatre building. The site today is a parking lot and some drab little 1970’s structures.

As this house was replaced by the Tackett Theatre, it is undoubtedly the airdome that John Tackett was reportedly building at 8th and Maple in 1910. The earliest report on the project I’ve found in the trade Journals was in the July 9 issue of Moving Picture World. The indoor Tackett Theatre was built in 1918.
