Bijou Theatre

This theater was open by 1909. It was located at the rear of a three story brick commercial building. The structure dated to sometime before 1895, and had previously held three storefronts facing west onto Main Street. The theater was located in new space formed by truncating the rear of the storefronts.

This theater operated until 1927-28, when the owner purchased the Ocaso Theatre far off to the southeast, and transferred the Bijou name. It was apparently intended that this theater would continue to operate, but it is not listed in the 1928 Yearbook. The 1939 map shows this building replaced by a one story structure (or possibly reduced to one story as was common in the Depression to reduce taxes, although all the storefronts now face north). This has long vanished, and the site is some waste ground and a parking lot.
