Gillis Theater

This very utilitarian three story brick building was constructed in 1926 to replace the grand old theater previously on this site, which was destroyed in an explosion. It was mainly retail, but included a small ground floor theater in the rear corner.

This theater was still operating in 1939, but does not appear in the 1940 Film Daily Yearbook.

The building is in excellent condition today, and is occupied by retail, restaurants, and offices. The side entrance that once served the theater historically had a 506 ½ address.
