The Comstock Theatre in the Woodman Hall building was the replacement of the nearby Gayety Theatre which had been operating since as early as 1912 (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The Comstock Theatre opened its doors on May 24, 1930 with Gary Cooper in “The Virginian” along with a Christie two-reel comedy “Let Me Explain”, a Hearst Metrotone Newsreel, and an unnamed Paramount Screen Song, featuring installations of Bes-Tone sound.

The Comstock Theatre closed in either 1955 or 1956.
