The Plaza Theatre operated as early as 1935 by Chatham resident Harland Rankin. Unfortunately, Rankin faced trouble in May 1936 following several violations of the Amusement Tax Act between January and March of that year, which he pleaded guilty to. Rankin returned to the theatre business right after spending 10 days in jail.

The Plaza Theatre once closed for several months in 1954 before reopening that August by Blenheim resident Ted Campbell, with his brother Fred being the manager. The Plaza Theatre became a video victim and closed during the early-1980’s.
