There was a listing for this venue also that disappeared.

I believe this place opened on or about the same time as the Academy 6 at Beltway Plaza. I believe the venue was located in the middle of this mall. Perhaps, the catalog store W. Bell anchored the end of it. There was a Hair Cuttery next to it where I used to get my hair cut. :) Now, I believe the theaters had the same shoebox tunnel auditoriums like the Academy 6 did and had stereo in some auditoriums.

Being the Trek fan I am, I’d like to think I saw the first Star Trek movie here at some point and II during the summer of its release in ‘82. Maybe when they had $1 Movie Wednesdays during its second run and like at the Academy, either myself or a friend would binge watch movies sneaking into auditoriums at the right time avoiding staff detection.

I do recall seeing Blade Runnder here in 1982. ‘82 was a great year for sci-fi and 70mm in this market. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a 70mm print. The 70mm venues as I can best recall were in the summer were: Annie at the Uptown, Star Trek II at the McArthur, ET at the KB Cinema, Poltergeist at the Embassy probably thats it.

My Blade Runner memory was one of feeling dirty. The movie was dark, grungy, rainy and depressing. The visuals were spectacular, of course, with Ridley Scott’s attention to visuals and super VFX by the late great Doug Trumbull and his FX co and his signature lens flares.

I also remember seeing Poltergeist here as I took the family wagon to be serviced next door at the then Bob Banning Pontiac/Dodge. My memory of the theatrical experience was the scene where one of the scientific team starts picking the flesh off his face in front of the mirror, to the screams of the audience. And the last shot of Craig T. Nelson’s character moving the tv OUT of the hotel room to the clap/cheer of the audience.

Mmmm…I believe this place may have been run by an independent chain after AMC but am not sure. For some reason, I’m thinking just the name Carrollton 6 sticks out.
