Located in the Lapa district of downtown Rio de Janeiro. The building was constructed in 1896, opening as the Grand Hotel da Lapa. In 1948 it was converted into the 670-seat Cine Colonial. It was closed in 1961.

Since 1965 it has operated as a concert hall featuring mainly chamber music, named Sala Cecillia Meirelles. Renovated in 2014 when a 150-seat auditorium was added.
