The Young Men’s Hebrew Association’s Atheneaum project launched in 1895 that opened the next year and burned down on January 17, 1905. The new Atheneaum opened in 1907 with a nearly 3,000 seat capacity auditorium. Beginning on May 3, 1910, it housed the Picturedrome Theatre, a movie house. They used the catchphrase, “When it doubt, go to the Picturedrome”. Still listed as active in th 1915/6 guide to theaters, the Picturedrome appears to have had on full Sumer of activity before discontinuing.

Rudolf Valentino appeared on the stage here on March 23, 1918. May 4, 1920 saw Caruso sing opera here. And Atheneaum #2 burned down in 1937.
