The Fort Frances Opera House opened its doors in early-January 1906 as a replacement of an earlier opera house that got destroyed by the Great Front Street Fire in the morning hours of June 16, 1905, when flames broke out in the rear of Nelson’s Clothing Store, located at the corner of Church Street and Front Street, and exploded rapidly throughout much of the Front Street Business District, destroying almost everything including three hotels (that left Fort Frances without a licensed establishment), almost a dozen stores, a restaurant, a bank, a telephone company, and the original opera house. The H. Williamson Company received the worst damage in the fire.

Even though there’s not a lot of information about this house, it was used for special events into as late as 1933. Its actual closing date remains unconfirmed.
