Located in the outer southwest district of Glen Eden. The Glen Eden Town Hall was opened in 1901. It was used to screen films, public meeting and dances. It was destroyed by a fire in 1935.

A new Glen Eden Town Hall was built to the plans of architect Arthur Marshall in a Georgian style. The building also contained a 500-seat Playhouse Theatre which opened on 12th May 1937. It was primarily used as a cinema and by 1951 it had been renamed Star Theatre, operated by D. Kelly.

In February 1971 it was renamed Playhouse Theatre and was being use for stage presentations by three theatre groups:St. Thomas’s Light Opera Group, Western Players & Auckland Children’s Light Opera Society. In 2017, the Model F 2 Manual 8 Ranks Wurlitzer organ (ex Regent Theatre, Auckland) which had been installed in the Hollywood Cinema, Avondale was transfered and installed in the Glen Eden Playhouse Theatre.
