95 Drive-In Theatre

Mr. and Mrs. Enido Nucci launched the 95 Drive-In Theatre between Hazel and Murray, Kentucky on what was Highway 95. Their opening film was June 2, 1950 with “Calamity Jane and Sam Bass” with Yvonne DeCarlo and Howard Duff supported by a cartoon. The opening of the Murray Drive-In in 1954 put a hurting on the 95’s business.

The Nuccis sold the venue on July 20, 1956 to Joe Dill. In 1957, the highway became 641 and, later, the address became a part of Hazel, Kentucky. Operating seasonally against the year-round Murray finally took its toll. The last advertised show was June 30, 1958 with “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” - likely the end of the line. The entire operation - land, concession stand, tower, and projection equipment - was offered for sale in 1960 for $9,000. It was not reopened and was demolished.
