The theatre emerged from an older venue originally known as the Lincoln Theatre opened by 1946. It was was listed as (Closed) in the 1950 & 1951 editions of Film Daily Yearbook. It was renamed and functioned prominently as the Rose Theater from 1950 thru 1955. Historical records show it was actively providing film entertainment to Gainesville’s African American community alongside the nearby Perry Theater (1948-1955). The neighborhood entertainment hub shifted as surrounding venues changed hands or closed down. (Gainesville Sun)
