The Hamont Theatre opened on July 5, 1941 and was badly damaged by a fire on March 7, 1952. It reopened on August 4, 1952 after a rebuild and closed in October 1962. Shortly after it reopened as a live theatre called the Cape Fear Regional theatre and is being enlarged as of late-2026. It was operated by Everett, H. H. theatres and Stewart & Everett Theatres.
