The State Theatre was opened by Warner Bros Circuit Management Corp. on August 18, 1937 with Dick Powell in “The Singing Marine”. It continued to operate as a single screen through the 1950’s. It was later tripled, and is now operated by the R/C Theatres chain.

The State Theatre is located at 12-14 Nelson Street and it seats 708 people.

This place is quite nice,if you are in the main auditorium,The former balconey spaces are a little snug.

The March 2, 1937, issue of The Film Daily had this item:

“Lexington, Va. — Warner Bros, is replacing the theater which was destroyed by fire and is building a new fireproof house in typical American Colonial style here. Theater is to be called the ‘State,’ and the planning and construction of this building have been entrusted to the architectural firm of John Eberson.”

The State Theatre opened its doors by Warner Bros Circuit Management on August 18, 1937 with Dick Powell in “The Singing Marine” (unknown if extras added).
