Closed 1960.
This opened on March 4th, 1938. Grand opening ad in the photo section.
The pictures in question about the Varsity being torn down appear to have been taken at the Snider Plaza shopping center in Dallas.
I don’t know where the photos that texas25th posted were taken, but the building shown is definitely not the Varsity Theater in southeast Fort Worth. The theater in question was closed in the early 70s at the latest, and torn down shortly thereafter.
@Stephen Brown:
Yes, the 40s were the good old days. Too bad I was born in the 60s and missed them.
These are photos shot of Varsity Theater from 1996-1997 It was demolished for upscale shops in 1997

I was one of those kids who went to the Varsity almost every Saturday from 1945 to 1951, We did get in for NINE CENTS. I usually had a quarter so I coud buy a ticket, get a coke and huge Hollway sucker for another dime and still have six cents to buy a ice cream cone at Ashburns or a trinket at Motts. Those were indeed the good old days.
There are a lot of us that miss them too, Jack. Thanks for sharing this one!
