I loved this Drive-in. It had a playground and a great feel to it.Good memories. When we grew older, my cousin got a job there.

The South San Francisco Fire Department was seen on a few episodes of the tv series “Mythbusters”. On 14/1/1970 the pre-opening was opened with on screen 1(Spruce 1) with “On her majesty’s secret service” and a free party on screen 2(Spruce 2)(no movie screening).
A note on March 4, 2013 in the San Mateo Daily Journal gave us the opening date: “On May 10, 1966, the Spruce Drive-In opened behind the South San Francisco Lumber Co. at 55 Spruce Ave. The South San Francisco Fire Department has a facility there now.”
Closed in 1986. 1500 cars.
This opened in 1966 and got its 2nd screen on January 14th, 1970. 1970 ad in the photo section.
Could this DI may have been named the Starlite DI when it opened?
I remember growing up and hitting the drive-ins. The Spruce was so cool. It had a playground, so during the intermission we would go play on the slides and swings (Wearing our pajamas!). It was sad that it closed.
