The Oakland Twin was opened on October 25, 1974. This was a first run twin theatre in the Oakland section of New Jersey. It was closed around 1993.

Listed in the 1/17/91 edition of the Star Ledger as the “Roberts Oakland Twin”.
Owned by Roberts theatres, the mall has been compleatly revamped, no evidence of the cinema is left (as Shoprite expaned the mall’s layout shifted). The final shows occured in, I wana say 1993-ish. I think the Kinnalon Mall 8’s opening could have been the final nail its coffin. The theater was a discount house before closing.
Weirdly I remember they got a new sign in front before they closed. Now it bares the Shop Rite logo.
This movie theatre during it’s final year showed the Rocky Horror Picture Show at midnight on Saturdays, I think, was renovated, and beacame a $2.50 discount house. Some final movies that played there were,“Edward Scissorhands,” “Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead,” “Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves,” “Decieved,” and “Freddy’s Dead” aka “A Nightmare On Elm Street 6,” which was formatted in 3-D.
From the summer of 1991 to the end, this theatre was operated by the Galaxy Theatre Corporation. They cleaned it up, and tried various programming and pricing policies, none of which were successfull. Shop-Right wanted the space for expansion, so the mall bought out the lease.
I was wondering what happened to this place. I saw my first movie without an adult here in 1980 — Meatballs with the great Bill Murray. I’m not sure theaters in Kinnelon helped close this place… most Oakland residents I knew went to see movies in Ridgewood or Paramus.
