The Plaza Theatre was opened by Mid-South Paramount Corp, and operated by their subsidiary M.A. Lightman Jr. The opening movies on June 1, 1967 were John Wayne in “El Dorado” & Michael Caine in “Hurry Sundown”. On December 22, 1971 it was taken over by Malco Theatres Inc. On September 15, 1978 it was twinned. This old theater was located at Wesleyan Park Plaza in Owensboro. It was closed on September 24, 2000. Now a church occupies the space. They use the cinema rooms as their Sancturary and their lobby as the front of the church.
A rival was the mall twin cinema in Lincoln Mall but, it has now closed too.
