The Northland Cinema was opened by General Cinemas on November 23, 1966. It was originally a 1,000 seat, single screen, but was split down the middle into a twin in October 1976. The building raised in the front with an all glass front and brightly lit lobby. The concession was in the middle of the lobby and the color scheme was of orange and browns.
It closed for a while when GCC left the St. Louis market and was later opened and operated as an independent. It finally closed for good July 29, 1999 and was later demolished.
It was a stand-alone building located at the southernmost end of the Northland Shopping Center which was also demolished in 2007.

It was three towards the end. Check the St. Louis Post-Dispatch archives (about 1999) if you don’t believe me.
In August 1998 it started appearing in newspaper movie times as the Northland 4.
How in the heck did they convert that place to 4 screens?
It was only a twin. I was the manager there at the time of the twinning until early 80’s when I was transferred to the old Jamestown Mall Twin
GREAT PIC! I walked along that parking lot many many times in the early part of my life! Memories…
The last movie I remember seeing there was He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword in 1985.I also remember seeing Star Trek II and Spacehunter (in 3D) there as well. There were probably others since it was the closest theater, but we would go to the North Twin, 270 or Halls Ferry more often.
November 23rd, 1966 was a busy day for opening new cinemas. This one, the GCC South County and the Crown from Wehrenberg. Ads in photo sections.
