The Todd Mart Cinema I & II was closed by General Cinema as a sub-run discount house on March 31, 1988 after screenings of “Shoot to Kill” and “Switching Channels.” Though the shopping center housing the facility had changed names from the Todd Mart Plaza to the Winton Place a year earlier, the cinema never changed names. GCC also closed the Westmar Plaza Cinema that same night.

The Holiday Cine was operated by Martina Theatres. They were always suing Loew’s and JoMor Theatres for unfair competition. They ran older downtown theatres and a couple of suburban houses.

The Holiday was the site of a stabbing or two and the theatre didn’t last long; only two or three years. It went from first run to ‘blaxploitation pics pretty quickly.

Dave, I believe it was called the “Holiday-Cine”. I, too, remember it.
I never saw a film there, but I remember the sign.
It late became a comic club. Now I don’t know what it is.

I vividly remeber seeing “Mother,Jugs, and Speed” advertised as playing there. That was released in 1976, so it was there at that date.

Hope that helps!

Do any of our Rochester friends remember back to about 1971, in the downtown Rochester area, there was a high-rise Holiday Inn right next to a river and a draw bridge. Among the amenities of the hotel was a mini-mall located off the hotel lobby. In that mini-mall there was a 2 screen cinema. If anybody knows if it is listed here on CT please let me know, I don’t remember the name of it. I stayed in the hotel, but business kept me occupied during the hours that the theatre was open, so I never got to check it out.

The Todd Mart Cinema was part of Genreal Cinemas Buffalo Division – Pat Corey was the Division Manager.

The Todd mart is closed. I’m not sure of the exact year, but I think it closed sometime in the late 80’s. I went there many times as a child in the late 70’s , early 80’s. All of the “twin” size theaters closed one by one when the new stadium theaters started showing up in the early 90’s.
