Second screen added in 1996.
This year will be the 70th season for the Georgetown! The back of the main screen now features the neon lettering reading “CINEMA” that stood on top of the now demolished bardstown road showcase cinemas in Louisville. I’ll get a picture the next time I go!
I love the Georgetown!! It seems like I am there every weekend during the summer. This year was especially fun: there were several bands and car cruises, and the annual Halloween horrorfest was a blast!!
One of only two remaining Drive Ins in the Louisville area, Georgetown added a second screen several years ago. The parking area is on a hill and usually they run First Run movies. Now that I live in the DC area, I really miss the Georgetown (as well as the Kenwood Drive In in Louisville proper). They’ve all been torn down in the name of progress in these parts…the closest one is in Baltimore! Looks like a road trip is in my future! I used to take my (well behaved) dogs with me to watch the “Giant TV”…they would sit and stare with wonder at the moving images. I sure miss those days…
