I would say the 90’s, it was ruined..it was a big twin theatre, large screens, that was probably david hyatt you saw….
What year did they split the theater into 4 screens?
I frequented this theater in the early 90s, all the way up to its closing, as a kid.
I remember going to Martinez Elementary school, and one year, the entire school spent all day walking from the school to the theater to watch a movie (I can’t remember which movie), but they would send us down there all school day by grade. And we walked!!! HAHA very exciting as a kid.
I vividly remember playing “Samurai Showdown” in the lobby of the theater, for YEARS.
I also remember an older, portly gentleman who would greet everyone that came in, and he was usually working at the concession stand.
The theater is now essentially Portman’s Music store

Most of my memories are from the dollar theater. I guess it was cheaper then so we went more often. I do remember seeing a movie in 1987 called Caught. Billy Graham was in part of it, doing a crusade. It was a Christian movie.

My father ran the projectors here for a number of years.I remember most of the theaters and drive inns around Augusta as he ran the projectors at most of them at one time or another.
Playing at my old Theatre is SWAN PRINCESS,LOVE AFFAIR,LITTLE GIANTS,STARGATE,RIVER WILD and THE SPECIALIST.this once proud Twin Theatre reduced to a dollar House……

I always liked coming here to see movies and I was sad when it closed down. At 99 cents a seat you couldnt beat it. Makes me remember all the movies I saw here in my elementary days. lol I remember when my dad took my younger sister and I to see Pokemon the First Movie(shows how young I am lol) here and it was packed to the brim!

Yes chuck,Columbia One side is a Church,Columbia Two side is a music store,One sheet cases were left.How I miss that Twin.
Thank goodness you and Russell are on.I worked with Russell at GCC,I have theatre buddies from Augusta that love talking the old days 74-79,but for the life of ME they will not get on CT.It drives me crazy.

Saw many movies at this theater, I grew up right there behind the Pepsi plant on Bobby Jones and would ride my bike up here to see movies starting in the late 70s. Saw so many movies here. Last time I went was Thanksgiving Day 1999, my sisters wanted to see some Julia Roberts movie that was playing, and I went and saw the Martin Lawrence movie Blue Streak. I would go down and eat at the Del Taco at the other end of the parking lot and go see a movie…….. Some notable movies I recall seeing here were The Final Countdown, Red Dawn, Battle Beyond the Stars, Return of the Jedi on a re-release.
June 3 1977 a summer date when most theatres are getting the summer movies.Not Columbia Two,booked in is the 60’s flick “WAIT UNTIL DARK"our City Manager in the newspaper ads is selling like "The Exorcist”, “The Omen"and"Carrie” all rolled up in one. Oh well, anything to sell a ticket.Re-released with a PG rating.June 17 1977 sees “THE DEEP” playing.Sept 16 1978 has “THUNDER AND LIGHTING” playing in Columbia One and also out at the Weis Drive-in. Oct.16 1977 “PAPILLION” is playing to no one while it airs that week on CBS. Nov.3 1978 “BORN AGAIN” is playing in Columbia One and my favorite marquee,“WHO IS KILLING THE GREAT CHEFS OF EUROPE?"is in Columbia Two.July 14 1978 we have "THE CHEAP DETECTIVE” and “CONVOY”.Jan 25 1980 has “PROMISES IN THE DARK”.playing.Feb 19 1982 repeats “REDS” and “CANNERY ROW” are showing. Columbia One got “WRATH OF KHAN” on July 2 1982, after thinking National Hills would get it.
