This just in: I’m told that there was a Court theater operating in 1926 and there was also a Paras Court theater operating in 1926. If thats true, I doubt that they are the same theater. Also, there is a Borough Hall theater operating in 1926.

I think that the Borough Hall and Cinart are one in the same theater. I don’t see the Paras Court theater listed on this site. I also believe that the Court theater and Paras Court theater are two different theaters. I don’t know what the FDYbook means by “Court & Smith Streets”. As far as I can tell, those two streets don’t intersect.

The 1931 FDYB lists a 598-seat Borough Hall Theatre at 102 Court Street; a 589-seat Court Theatre at Court & Smith Streets; and a 600-seat Paras Court Theatre at 292 Court St. So that seems to me to be three different theatres, but I can’t swear to the accuracy of FDYBs. The Court is not listed in the 1935 FDYB, but it might have undergone a name change by that time. However, the 1935 FDYB still lists the Paras Court.

Smith and Court street are one block apart and run parallel to each other. Could the Court theater be the Paras Court theater at 292 Court St?

The 1931 Film Daily Year Book lists a 598-seat Borough Hall Theatre at 102 Court Street. It seems possible that this was the theatre later known as the Cinart. The same FDYB also lists a 589-seat Court Theatre with no address other than the cross streets of Smith & Court.

The Cinart was north of Atlantic Avenue. The Cobble Hill is south. The Cinart and surrounding buildings were destroyed and the United Artists Court Street Stadium 12 was built on that site, along with a bookstore (I think Barnes & Noble). This would be at 108 Court Street.

I found another website that mentions the Cinart. Its a tribute site to someone that wrote and directed films. Anyway it mentions that a movie premiered at the Cinart and at the Tivoli theater in Manhattan. Is the Tivoli theater on here under another name? This is the link to that website. This theater is mentioned about ¾ of the way down the page:

In that case, I’m totally lost on this theater. I’ll keep looking.

Yes I just looked it up, thats the Cobble Hill. The name Lido needs to be added as a former name. It has the other previous name Rio already.

Isn’t the Lido the original name of the Cobble Hill Cinemas?

There were a number of theaters on or near Court St. I found one that I don’t see listed on here. There was a Lido theater at 265 Court St. That address would locate the Lido at Court St and Butler St. Any chance that it could be this theater?

Yes that’s right it was Court Street, I could not remember the street when I posted it.

Would you remember if this theater was located on Court St. I read on a message board that there was a Cinart theater located there.
